Call for Presenters

Submit your proposal for the NCSCA Conference!​

The North Carolina School Counselor Association is requesting proposals for presentations promoting evidence-based programs in the domains of academic, career, and personal/social development. Presentations should include the latest techniques and practices that are relevant, innovative and inclusive/multicultural in the field of school counseling. Presentations should assist school counselors in demonstrating one or more of the school counseling standards. Presentations should showcase proven programs, current research, learning outcomes or skills of value to counselors, pre-K to postsecondary as well as district personnel, graduate students and counselor educators.

DECISION PROCESS

Please note, all sessions are 50 minutes in length.

If you feel your topic cannot be covered in 50 minutes while allowing for attendee questions, please consider breaking the session up into two topics or submitting a Part I and Part II.

Proposals of a political, marketing, or for-profit nature will NOT be accepted.

The conference theme is Constellations of the Heart: Empowering Each and Every Student!. Presentations on that topic are welcome and requested!

Implementing the School Counseling Model and Standards

  • Engaging school/district leaders in the implementation of the counseling program
  • Effective strategies for administrators to support the implementation of the school counseling program
  • Creating strong needs assessments
  • Assessments and evaluations of counseling programs and individual programs and services
  • Setting program goals aligned to student and school needs
  • Effective strategies to close achievement and opportunity gaps
  • Using data to deliver effective counseling programs and show impact on student outcomes
  • Utilizing social media to market your counseling program
  • Managing your program with technology (i.e. time and data trackers)

School Counseling Core Curriculum

  • Prevention strategies for drop out, teen pregnancy, suicide and alcohol/drug abuse
  • Postsecondary readiness strategies for all grade levels
  • Lesson and Activity plans to meet school counseling standards

  • Supporting seamless transitions from elementary to middle to high school to postsecondary training and the workforce

Submit Your Vitae/Resume

In addition to filling out and submitting the form below, applicants are REQUIRED to submit a PDF of their vitae or resume, which includes their degree, educational training, certifications and licenses.

Notice regarding proposal acceptance will be sent via e-mail by the end of July.

The Lead Presenter will receive all communications regarding your breakout session and will be responsible for sharing it with co-presenters, if any.

NCSCA will convene a committee to review and select Conference sessions. You will be contacted by NCYI, the organization managing this conference, to let you know if your proposal is accepted. We carefully consider all proposals in an effort to share resources, strategies, and successes in issues facing today’s youth.

Presenter Instructions

HANDOUTS
A QR code will be used for attendees to gain access to session handouts. Please upload your file/s to this Dropbox folder with your session title as the file name. Please upload your materials at least one week before the conference. You are welcome to provide physical copies of your handouts to attendees at your own expense. The rooms will be set for 40-60 participants. By agreeing to be a breakout session presenter, you are agreeing to submit your presentation to NCSCA to upload to the website for conference participates to refer back to after the conference. If you are approved as a presenter, you will be notified of how and by when to submit the outline.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS
Presenters must make their own hotel reservations and are responsible for all of their travel expenses.

CO-PRESENTERS
All communications regarding your breakout session will come to the Lead Presenter directly, and they will be responsible for sharing it with their Co-Presenter(s), if any. Also note the rate structure for Co-Presenters. If a Co-Presenter is not added at the time of the CFP submission, please email us with this information at least a month before the start of the conference.

WI-FI
The hotel is equipped with Wi-Fi Internet that is complimentary. However, we highly recommend designing your session so that you will not need internet access, since it can be slow or unreliable.

AUDIO VISUAL EQUIPMENT
All meeting rooms will be arranged theater style. Please note that the conference will provide a screen, A/V cart and power supply at no charge to you. However, the conference will not be able to provide any other A/V equipment. You are responsible for providing your own LCD Projector, laptop and dongle/appropriate adapter, if needed for your presentation. If your presentation requires sound for a video or sound effect please make the necessary plan to provide that equipment on your own. If you need additional audio visual equipment, please contact the hotel. Any arrangements you make with the hotel will be at your own expense.

*To qualify for member rates your membership must be good through November 6, 2026. Renew your membership if not current, or if becoming a member for the first time, go to the NCSCA Website BEFORE registering.

The discounted presenter rate can only be used for the lead presenter. All co-presenters may register at the standard attendee registration rate. If your session is approved, the Lead Presenter will be emailed a link to the exclusive registration portal for approved lead presenters.

If your Co-Presenter(s), if any, plans to present the breakout session and then leave, there will be no registration fee. By not registering, they will not be given a name badge, program manual or tote bag, and will not be able to participate in any other sessions or meal functions at the conference.
