Culturally Sustaining School Counseling ($20)

Pre-Conference
Thursday, November 16, 2023

As school counselors’ responsibilities mount, we need the tools to work in an increasingly vibrant, more complex, fast-paced world. We need to work with our colleagues and stakeholders to ensure our schools meet the needs of all students currently and prepare them for the future. We need to work smarter, not harder. One strategy for working efficiently, and to maximize school counselor efforts and outcomes, is to align school counseling programs with a multitiered system of supports (MTSS). “Making MTSS Work” provides a wealth of information, activities and sample charts for aligning your ASCA National Model school counseling program with your school’s MTSS program, thus ensuring they’re both more effective.

A planned lunch. An organized small group. A Friday afternoon. What do these things have in common? It’s that sometimes It Never Fails that our best-laid plans lead to an unexpected next crisis. It’s just part of being a school counselor. But what about all those things you do that “never fail” to lead to success? Listen as Matt shares how collaborative relationships, advocacy and well articulated goals lead to purpose and program success.

After attending this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify and utilize the Five Never Fails in school counseling.
  • Learn how to accept challenges by considering them learning opportunities.
  • Identify your boundaries and embed your own self-care strategies.
